I assume you are running on an account other than the Administrator account?  If so, have you tried booting into Safe Mode and logging in as Administrator?  If you don't know the PW and someone else set it up for you...it may seem obvious but try leaving the Administrator PW blank.  So many users I run across never actually set a PW for the admin account.  Scary, huh?   Grin

It seems obvious, I know... but you never know.  It could save you a lot of time and trouble.

@gia-

I've also posted on a boot util you can try if you have confirmed you do not have access to any other windows account (administrator's included).

I have a hard question.....if I'm logged in-Vista-with guest account....how can I get around the adminstrator password so I can complete downloads? I want to get firefox but I can't due to a box popping up that wants the administrator password. Thanks for some help on this.

@Damon-

I found this on a Vista post online, it might help.  You can give it a whirl...

"Log in to lee and see the password for the administrator account:

- Click start
- Type: cmd
- Right-click cmd, and click Run As Administrator
- Type: net user administrator $PASSWORD$
Where $PASSWORD$ is the password you wish to set. To unset a password,
type two quotation markes ("").
- Press enter

For example:

net user administrator ""

Should clear the administrator password and allow you to log in by just
clicking on the administrator account from the welcome screen.

You should now be able to use the administrator account.

To have the administrator auto log in:

- Click start
- Type: control userpasswords2
- Press enter
- Uncheck "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer"
- Click OK
- Type administrator for the username and the password you set for the admin
account, if you decided to set one"

Sweet! Is there a way to get in without changing the actual administrative password? Thanks!
