In computer terms, phishing is the process of attempting to acquire personal information such as usernames, passwords and credit card details by pretending to be a seemingly trustworthy person/webpage/thing which is cunningly able to get the personal info off you.

To add to what smartsmartuuuu said. That weird email you got probably had a link that you clicked. The link took you to a myspace login page. You unwittingly logged in, not realizing it was a fake myspace page. And when you clicked the login button, your email and password was sent to the person who made the fake page.

You must get into the habit of paying attention to links. Especially when you're on myspace. Check your address bar whenever you login and make sure the url begins with myspace.com otherwise it's fake. Also it's a good idea to grab an msplinks converter, so you can hover over links to see their destination before even going there. If you're not using greasemonkey, you can accomplish this with a simple bookmarklet.

Unfortunately the creator of the bookmarklet won't allow his link to be placed on a private forum. So go to this page and then use firefoxes find feature to find the work "bookmarklet". That will lead you to the link you need from the pigeonsnest page. Once there, follow his instructions to add the bookmarklet.
