I believe someone may have put me on limited profile b/c nothing has been posted to their profile in like 2 weeks. I can still see all the old postings though.  Also, when I log onto facebook, my chat will say there are a certain # of people online but when i click on the chat box to open it, the number always decreases. For instance, I log on, the chat box says there are 9 friends online. I click on the chat box and then it says 7 people are online. I am very suspicious that someone is not only giving me limited access to their profile but hiding from me in chat.  Is there any way to know?

I think the number of people available for chat decreasing is normal. It happens to me too. I think that maybe at one time during your session there may have been that many available but when you click it, it adjusts to the actual number. I could be wrong though......

myowngirl is correct. the number decreases due to time sessions.

Thanks for the response. It's just weird to me that the number decreases like that 2 seconds after I just logged on. At any rate, is there any way to know if someone has put you on limited profile or is hiding from you in chat?

I also noticed that this person's profile http address is slightly different than anyone else on my friend's list. For the person whom I think has put me on limited profile, the address is http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/firstname.lastname?ref=ts   - it just gives the name instead of the profile number.
and then everyone else's is http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#!/profile.php?id=xxxxxxxxx&ref=ts   where x is profile number.
Can anyone make anything out of this?

thats what they changed their url too. some people use their name and last name at the end of it. that is how mine is. so, instead of my facebook user ID, users will see an alpha ID.

yes, their id number should still show somewhere. there isnt a way to see if you are limited to certain sections of a profile. the only way is if you know someone on their list who can see more than you. ie, certain albums that you normaly dont see, but someone else can. sorry my response is slow today, but im taking care of my little one and swytch will be offline for awhile. & glad to help! I can see everything I used to be able to see, the status just has not been updated in a while which is unusual. If i'm blocked from status updates, does it block me from only the new ones or from all of them including the ones I used to be able to see?

And no worries about delayed responses, I'm doing other things as well! Help is always appreciated  Grin

ok, then they must have not updated it in awhile. it may seem weird, but thats what it sounds like. you would be blocked from seeing all statuses, even old ones. if this person wanted to block just you from statuses, then he/she would have to do a custom setting and in the custom setting, he/she has to name who IS allowed to view, not who isnt, so its a tedious task. i dont know of anyone who goes through all of that trouble just to keep one person from seeing it Tongue

Actually, you can set as your default to block one (or many) people from your status updates.  Or you can create a group of people and do the same thing.  Therefore all status updates will be displayed according to those settings unless you change them.  You will be able to see the old ones before this new privacy update they did, but not the new ones.  The only reason I know this is because I have my parents and work people blocked from my updates Smiley

@rb,

that's kind of odd, as I have people blocked from my status updates (mostly family), and they couldn't see old ones (fake account to test this), either; at least, ones done before the privacy updates.

@bunnies

good way to see if you're on a limited profile is to go into your privacy settings, see the default for limited profiles, and see if you can't see any of the things prohibited by said settings.  The status update isn't a great measure to see if you're on a limited profile, as there may be a glitch (facebook is going through a few of those, which tells me update time, again).
