Recent Activity of (Former) Target Showing up In My Newsfeed

I don't know if I've missed something, and this is completely normal, or if FB is having some sort of momentary glitch, but . . .
A target and I were friends, but they decided to thin the herd, and I was unfriended. (Love those FB scripts that notify you when you've been blocked, unfriended or had a request denied/ignored) Since then, the target's profile has been locked down tighter than Ft. Knox.
But tonight, I logged onto FB, and when my home page opened to my news feed, and I clicked on "most recent", a post came up about half-way down the page and said "my target is now friends with so and so and so and so." How does that happen? I clicked the link to my former target's profile, but of course, still very private. I clicked on the links for each of the target's new friends and could see their respective walls . . . posts by them, and others. However, while my target's recent activity showed up in my newsfeed, it did NOT show up on their new friend's walls. Which would be due to the privacy settings they (my former target) have in place.
How can the activity of someone that you're not friends with show up in your newsfeed?
If I'm missing something and in the middle of a massive brain fart, please forgive.

I commented on that, too, because someone I used to date deleted me and all of her stuff is showing up on my newsfeed (still, a couple weeks after the defriending). I'm not going to complain, but I think it has to do with a server error on Facebook's end not recognizing the 'deletion'.

@Angry Johnny: thanks for the response . . . I had wondered if it had something to do with the FB userscript I've got running with my profiles. I had one "friend" unfriend me, and I was notified through the unfriend userscript. However, that "friend" is still in my friends list and then the notification disappeared. I didn't know if there were some bugs with the userscript or not.
Since my former target's profile is private this continued visibility of the activity is one way to at least get a partial glimpse of who they're friending, so no complaints from me, either!
p.s. I didn't see your comment on this topic, or I wouldn't have duplicated it. :-)
