Is it possible to confirm 2 targets are friends of each other?

Not sure how useful this might be if it is possible, but ....
Is there a way to confirm if two IDs are friends with each other?
Here's what leads me to this question.
I have a friend whom I'm no longer friends with. In October they made their 1.0 profile private, then recently updated their profile to 2.0 and only their top 8 friends are visible. The total number of friends is now 2 less than it was just a few weeks ago. None of the top friends have changed.
My former friend had a friend (we'll call this friend, friend B) before their profile went private who was not in their top friends, but way down the list. Friend B's profile has always been private.
Recently there's been a lot of drama between these two and I am speculating that my former friend deleted friend B from their friends list.
I know there's probably no simple URL that can confirm if the two friend IDs are or are not associated through 'friends' association. Wondering if there would be any codes incorporating values or true/false parameters that might identify such a situation?
