Hey people. A recent bad incident happened to me, and I kind of want revenge. I know that sounds bad, but the only thing I could think of was retrieving info on his email and password and changing his profile and whatnot. Only problem is I tried to send a message to myself with a link in it and myspace gave me an error that it was either a spam link, or a phishing link. How do I get it to not say that it's spam or a phishing site? Any programs I could use to find his email/password?

do you have his email addy? if so, just send him a message saying something like, hey i went to school with you and i've been trying to add you as a friend, but no luck. Here's my page...then it wont show the myspace warning...works for me. & since the link came from an email, he would assume that he would have to login again Wink

Is the profile public?  If not, do you know where you might get a photo or two of the person in question?  If you have at least one, you could make a spoof profile.  For instance, if this is a guy and he's a manly man...make a profile that would suit a barbie doll in every way.  Tons of pink, talk of t-top corvettes, dream houses and how fantastic Ken is in bed.  Insert target's photos, and tadaa!  Something silly to laugh about.  Add request him and/or his friends with the spoof profile.  Of course, this is just an example...be creative and have fun...but don't be malicious.  There's no need to go so far that you get yourself in hot water, know what I mean?

No...he's not manly at all. He's a fat little emo kid. And that is a very good idea. Isn't that illegal to use someone else's photos?

it is, but we all do it for fake accounts. so, who cares?  the worst that can happen is, the fake account will get deleted Tongue

Well I am definitely gonna lean that way. His profile is public though, so I could just snoop around a bit. Anyways. I tried to use a fake email to register on myspace, but I think myspace caught on cuz they asked me to verify it. And do I use a fake name when registering with a fake email address? Do I have to make a real email just so the fake email works?

So I was thinking about it, and if I did make a spoof profile, wouldn't I get in trouble for legal issues, and what if he sues me? I would rather that didn't happen. So I am proposing a new question. Can I make up a fake name like Peter Parker or something?

So what happens if I do this? I made a fake email, and am now registering. By the way, I am kind of new to this, so how does one make a fakespace? Just with a fake name and all that? Have any of you had luck with this sort of thing?

Well I added a photo, but myspace said it uploaded it from my ip address. I got nervous/panicky and deleted the picture. And I have more questions. After I make this space, (I chose peter parker, but change the name to his first name, and a fake last name) and add him or a friend of his, what do I say? Cuz they will ask why I have his pictures.

OK, I realize I opened pandora's box with the suggestion...so I'll follow up with more suggestions  I know there's a great thread somewhere on how to set up a really good dummy account but I didn't find it with a quick search...so I'm hoping someone will add it to the thread for reference.  Shoot me for being lazy, lol..but its way late, I've been up way to long, and I'm offering a tutorial so I hope that will offset my lazy search Tongue

How to create a Myspace Profile

First, you need an email address.  I suggest using yahoo or gmail.  They are good email providers and the accounts are quick to set up.  Be creative with your new email address.  I suggest NOT using anything that is easily identifyable to you.  This protects your privacy from 'nosy' people Wink

Next, go to myspace and create an account using your new email address  MS requires ANY member that signs up to verify the email address being used before allowing the new member full privileges on the MS site.  This is not a measure to 'track' you.  They are trying to prevent spammers.  Follow the instructions to verify the new email address.  Once you've done that, you have an account ready to be set up!

If you want to create a layout, there are tons of great sites that offer free layouts for MS.  Just google the term 'myspace layouts' and you'll find dozens of options.  Add photos to your page last.  I don't want to conflict with a mod, but it is not illegal to use another MS users photos on your profile.  There could be 2 exceptions 1. the photos are copyrighted material.  That is illegal.  despite the laws, I've had several friends' copyrighted digital artwork snagged off their site and illegally used...and myspace never did a thing!  Didn't ask the pilferer to take down the pics or deleted the account....nada.  The other exception, if it exists, will be in the myspace user agreement, sometimes called the Terms of Service (TOS for short).  the TOS is not LAW, but you can usually find what is or is not acceptable actions for their site (ie, don't post naked pics).   As far as blatant violations of their TOS...there are probably hundreds if not thousands of pics on MS that are about as close to being full naked as can be...and MS doesn't do anything in most cases.

***MANDATORY TANGENT...VERY IMPORTANT***

Just because using another users pics isn't illegal in most cases, its probably not polite to do it without asking the owner first.  If you're spoofing and not asking first....PLEASE...use good judgment and common sense.  Don't be hateful, be playful Cheesy.   I suggest imagining how you would feel if you were on the receiving end of the actions you are about to take.  If you think you'd laugh or be mildly/moderately irritated, probably OK.  If you would freak out, try to seek vengance, or spend more than 5 or 10 minutes laughing or thinking about the spoof....I wouldn't do it in that case.  sure you might really want to 'get at' that person...but its usually best to step back and play fair.  Think of the fun spoof as a 'warning shot' across the bow.  Its like saying 'hi, see what I can do?? yeah I'm being nice now..so if you will be nice...I will be nice.  If you want to be mean...well I clearly know how to go down that road so don't make me!!!'

OK, back to work....

Now you have the spoof profile all set up and viewable.  Do what you choose.  You could add request the spoof-ee, add request their friends.  Even send them a simple email so they will look and see your spoof.  Once you've had some fun laughing it up....delete the profile.  YES, DELETE IT.  Your point will be made when the spoofee see's your work.  The longer the spoof profile is around, the more likely the spoofee is to get mad or start 'interweb drama'.

Here's a few do's and don'ts...
1. DON'T identify the spoofee in the spoof profile.  Don't use their name, where they live, go to school, work, etc.  Putting identifying information in writing starts to run on the edge of slander/libel...which is an act that you can be sued for...and in some cases convicted of cyber crime (stalking harassment).

2. DON'T communicate back and forth with the spoofee.  Send one email, or one add request.  If the spoofee is savvy, they might know how to put a tracker in the email sent to you and just by opening that mail they will have information to potentially identify you.

3. DO keep a log of the email address you created, the lpassword for that email, the log -in information  for MS, and the password for MS.  I suggest making a word document or an excel spreadsheet.  You want to be able to delete the profile once the joke has been played and it would really stink if you can't remember how to log back into these rarely used new accounts.  Then you'd have to contact MS and eww, how awkward would that be?  'Yeahhh, ummmm Myspace?  Yeah, this is user XYS buthead...I can't remember how to get into the account I made just to tease somebody...".  Write it down!!  Cheesy

4. DO keep it light and fun.  Don't dish out what you can't take in return.  If I were spoofing a guy friend, I might just use a 'hello kitty' or some other cute, girly layout.  If someone were spoofing me, they would try to find something with snakes.  I HATE SNAKES.  If I clicked on the spoof profile, I'd scream, jump, pray to the stars that I didn't pee my pants...then have a good laugh.  I'd probably email the spoofer and say 'haha, nice job.  you got me.  ok take it down now'.  End of game.

This is just a guideline.  This is not a set instruction sheet.  Nobody can guarantee that the person you spoof will be amused...they could really get peeved...so be cautious, thoughtful and respectful as you spoof them.  If you're so worried that you're going to 'get caught' or 'get in trouble' for your actions...that's probably your conscience letting you know you shouldn't do what you're thinking about.

A few final thoughts.

Social websites can be fun...but they can also expose you to things you never intended.  Just because its YOUR user content on YOUR page, doesn't mean someone else won't take it and run with it and do who knows what.  Just because you have privacy settings enable on your account doesn't mean someone won't figure a way around that.  If you post ANYTHING on the net about yourself, be sure you'd be comfortable with ANYONE seeing it...from your baby brother, to your best friend, to your teacher and your grandmother.  If you follow that guideline, you should never run into embarrassment or worse because of what you put on the net.

Remember, even jerks are people too.  You might spoof someone because you're angry with them...but they are just like you..they do have feelings even if they appear to have them stuffed so far up their...*ahem*...you get the idea.  Treat people how you want to be treated.  On the other side of that coin...don't tempt fate by being mean and setting off someone's crazy button.  If you do end up being identified as the spoofer, you're in for a wild ride, ESPECIALLY if the spoofee is a little 'off the reservation.'

LAstly....PLEASE...if you did not hear of the case a few years (or was it just last year) back where a teen age girl took her own life over a myspace prank....google the terms and READ IT.  Messing with people is not nice.  Its not ethical, and I certainly don't condone it.  I am providing this SPOOF information for GOOD CLEAN FUN ONLY.  If you take this info and do use it against someone harmfully....that person wont be the only one looking for you.  I'd love to be able to share as much info as she geeks allows me to and know that ALL she geeks members will respect my suggestions.  If we all play nice, we can all play more.
