Some people decide to delete a profile after they change their mind about a message they have sent to someone. There are some things to consider and some tips..Deleting the profile prevents them from reading the message. But sometimes it takes up to 48 hours for the profile to actually delete; and
during that time they can still read the mail. But once the profile is actually deleted the message is a goner.
But, if the person has email notification turned on via their myspace account settings (most do have it turned on because it is the default for all profiles--it sends a email to their hotmail, yahoo, etc) they do get an email telling them that "so and so" sent them a message.
Also, in regards to the email notification, myspace has recently started showing a snippet of myspace messages in your email notification. It is possible that the snippet could still be in their email notification. Someone that has some time could test that out for us

Most profiles don't delete immediately. In fact, after you go through the whole delete process (and even confirm the delete confirmaion email to your hotmail, yahoo, etc) you can still login to the profile and it is still fully functional until myspace finally does the actual deletion. Once you cannot login to it anymore, then you know it is gone.
When you decide that you need to immediately delete a profile for some reason--be sure to remove all friends from that profile. Also remove pictures, blogs, layout, videos. (some past and future loopholes can show stuff from deleted profiles).
Then follow it up with a overlay that says its deleted. A good overlay can be found here at the following link. It was created by a person named Eileen (and remember your profile must be set to PUBLIC for it to work. If your profile is private then only your friendslist can see the overlay) Here is the url to Eileen's stellar overlay :
