overview:
This is for public profiles or private profiles that you are friends with. This tip allows you to check a page for trackers before you visit it. We all like to see what a full page looks like, so before you take a peek, use this to make sure you are blocking all trackers that are on that particular myspace profile.

In addition to the 'she-geeks blocker tracker' as well as other tools including Jewels' tip to prevent adblock from loading any images on a webpage ..here is an additional way to take a peek at a page and not get tracked.
It is a way to view the source of a page without having to enter the page first and right click--which could cause yourself to get tracked by a new tracker that you are not blocking yet..Find a new tracker and add it to your block list and report it in the thread specified for reporting new trackers here at she-geeks.

Tip:
..The following needs to be put in the address bar and loaded, and it will produce a page containing the source code of that page (this can be used in other places besides a myspace profile page) :

view-source:http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=xx

You can do this with blog pages as well and to check picture captions that could contain trackers.
(to do this simply replace the profile url above with the url for blogs and the url that has picture captions on it).

This will add a hit to their profile view counter.
Once you view the source, copy and paste it into a word pad.
Exit the webpage that contains their view source--because there are 'live links' in that view source page--and one accidental click on one of those links could take you to a part of their page that has trackers. Also, there may be a malicious link in there that you dont want to click on. So, get in, get the info, and get out.

note: if you are checking pictures and blogs, you need to be logged into a myspace profile in order to access the page.

Excellent tip from Jewels:
not all tracker urls will have the word "tracker" in them, so you must examine all the links on the page and their structure. For instance, profiletracker's url is imaqeshack.com, which to the casual viewer appears to be imageshack.com and not suspect. Scoping out the entire source code is difficult and time consuming. I prefer to use file2hd.com - put the entire myspace url in the url box and select the link radio button. Then you get all the links on the page without the extra source coding. It makes inspecting the links that much easier. You are looking for anything that is misspelled, not a myspace url, or just plain looks odd.

This rocks!  I have some friends on my friends list and I am weary of going to their page to check for trackers. Of course because they may have some new trackers that Im not blocking yet. (not all of them know about trackers but a few do)

So.....Let me make sure I have this correct....I login to myspace and put that in the address bar with their friend id and it will show me all the code on their profile, right?

@Charlotte

Yeah I think you have the hang of it.

Use this before going to a profile to be sure there are no trackers that are not on your adblock list yet.
She-Geeks provides a tracker blocker to make your tracker blocking easier...click...here

note: If all of this sounds like a foreign language to you, I really suggest you read the tracker threads and learn all the "ins-and-outs"   ..Once you learn the info about trackers, you will wonder why you waited so long to start utilizing the tactics provided here.

Alot of members here use the codes to see private profiles...if you allowed yourself to get tracked by your target in the meantime..it would kind of defeat the purpose of trying to acquire ninja status Wink

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question, but I use this tip (THANKS!) and was able to view all the HTML codes.  I did this on my profile thinking I'd be available to easily identify the mixmap code embedded there, but I couldn't see it ?

When looking at all that stuff, what exactly should I be looking for ?  Should I be able to see actual words that identify the name of the tracker (such as "mixmap" for example)Huh?  Thanks so much.

if you are looking for a tracker, try this:

http://www.hideinthesky.com/ms/

enter in the friend ID and it will scan the profile for trackers and other stuff.

I use hideinthesky because I like the way it quickly loads the page and enlarges the picture.  But someone on here said that the tracker information was not reliable.  I have never put in anyones id that showed a tracker, but then again they may not have one.  Has anyone ever put a target's id in that showed a tracker?   I'm curious.

someone just mentioned that alot of people use this to see private profiles. how do they do it?

The "tip to avoid getting tracked" only allows you to check for trackers on pages that you can see. If it's a private profile--you have to be on their friends list to check their actual profile. If you are not on their profile--you can only check their front page for a tracker on their headline. Same thing for hideinthesky--for private profiles, it only lets you check for headline trackers...It doesn't let you check inside private profiles for trackers--only the headline.

@Bucklee
I recall someone saying it isnt reliable only because it only lets you check headline area on private profiles for trackers--if a private profile has a tracker in their interests section--you are not gonna detect it with hideinthesky. It doesn't have access to private profile actual pages. Doesn't make it unreliabe--it makes it non-full-proof. It also has a buggy online now checker--gives the wrong status for profile's online status most of the time. Overall, some use that site, some don't, it just depends on someone's preference.

I have used HITS to check my profile and it picks up my tracker, but that's because my tracker is embedded in my headline.  This is why I'm curious to read the code by viewing the source instead.  I'm still learning and find all of this intriguing.  Thanks!

HITS doesn't detect unknown trackers. Someone slips in a new tracker to their profile that isn't known yet..boom you've been tracked. That is why we recommend the tips here to check to see if there are any unknown trackers in someones headlines or profile...find them then post them in the appropriate thread so that they can be added to the she-geeks tracker blocker. This is the only surefire way to not get tracked by new tracker...and the tip in this thread can be used on any page of a public profile. Trackers are at the bottom of my priority list because I don't worry about tracking people--but just lending a helping hand to the ones who do care about it...same as with the private myspace codes. I stay away from that hits site since I have heard "rumors" that it takes working codes from other sites and incorporates it into its ms scripts..thus causing the codes to get patched quicker. Nothing pisses a person off more than creating a code and see it get stolen and patched. People don't have to share codes they created, we choose to share them out of courtesy.

Sorry, going back to my original question here as I am still confused.  When I view the code, what exactly am I looking for to discern whether or not a person has a tracker on their profile ?  It all looked like a bunch of gobbledygook to me.  Sad  Would such words as "mixmap" or "profiletracker" or even just "tracker" actually show up in the code ?  So, what am I asking is: should it be easy to tell from looking at the code that the person has a tracker?  When I view the code on my page, I don't see anything that tells me I have a mixmap tracker even though I have one.  Thanks.

not all tracker urls will have the word "tracker" in them, so you must examine all the links on the page and their structure.

Excellent tip Jewels..I added this to the original post.

Also, as a reminder to the other members, this thread is not about HITS. If you have any questions about hideinthesky you need to ask the questions at hideinthesky's forum.

yes, if you have issues with HITS, please use their forum. & as pat says, hide in the sky has been so inaccurate lately...not sure what the deal is. it's like a hit & miss with that thing lately. i use view page source for everything. i love it. love it. love it.   Grin
